Part-time work, overtime and unpaid time off

  • Part-time. Multiply by your real weekly hours × 52. At 30 hours a week, $20 an hour is $31,200 a year, not $41,600.
  • Unpaid weeks. Use the weeks you are actually paid. Two unpaid weeks turn $25 an hour into $50,000 instead of $52,000.
  • Overtime. Hours above 40 a week are usually paid at 1.5 times the rate for non-exempt workers, so they add more than their share.
  • Salaried jobs. To compare a salary offer with an hourly one, divide the salary by 2,080. A $60,000 salary is about $28.85 an hour.
